These programs are open to all faculty, but faculty who teach Gateway level courses may be eligible for $100 stipends. Eligibility for the stipends will be determined via the registration process in which you are asked to list Gateway level courses taught. All events are from 9am-3pm.

It's Not Just a Grade: Using Assessment for the Benefit of Faculty and Students
The Gateway Scholars program was created to help course coordinators and instructors find new ways to improve teaching and learning in high enrollment courses that serve as a gateway to the major. Since the program’s inception in 2004, forty-one faculty members have participated.
During an intensive summer institute, scholars explore the ways in which they would like to enhance their teaching and students’ learning and thus improve retention in their courses. This occurs through individual course planning, group work, and interactive sessions on topics of interest to the scholars. Additionally, scholars prepare individual work plans that include strategies to improve retention in their courses. They continue meeting regularly as a group during the academic year.
Projects developed by scholars have included developing a series of best practice workshops for colleagues, creating short movies with Captivate to serve as a form of supplemental course instruction, and reversing the traditional “watch/listen and learn” teaching methodology to a more student-centered, problem-based approach.
