Finding Your Strengths: Leadership in the Gateway Class

This is a two day workshop scheduled for June 2 & 4 from 9 a.m. - 3p.m. You should plan on attending both days of the workshop.
What is your leadership role in the classroom? How can you identify and use your strengths to energize your classes, reveal opportunities for collaborations with colleagues, and create a personal teaching plan? This two-day workshop will be facilitated by Laura Osteen, director, LEAD Center, Florida State University. The LEAD Center is a cutting edge, campus-wide, comprehensive leadership learning program that enables and empowers Florida State faculty, staff and students to make a difference in their scholarly/creative, campus, professional, and wider communities.

The Three “Es” of Large Lecture Classes: Energize, Engage, and Enhance

This workshop spans two days, June 16 & 18, 2008. Please plan on attending both days.
What can instructors do to energize and engage students who seem uninterested in course content and learning? In this workshop, we will explore ways instructors can make classroom learning more meaningful for students. Come discuss topics such as active learning in a large lecture, motivation, learning theory, and interpersonal communications. Todd Zakrajsek, director, Faculty Center for Innovative Teaching at Central Michigan University will facilitate this active and engaging two day session.

It’s Not Just a Grade: Using Assessment for the Benefit of Faculty and Students

This is a two day workshop scheduled for June 26 & 27 from 9 a.m. - 3p.m. You should plan on attending both days of the workshop.
Final grades may tell you what your students know, but how do you know how much your students actually learned in your class? Above all, how do you know which teaching strategy or technology helped students’ learn? This two day workshop will help you document and measure your students' learning to support grant proposals, curriculum revisions, and your own development as a teacher. Tom Nelson Laird, assistant professor, School of Education, Indiana University Bloomington and project manager, Faculty Survey of Student Engagement will facilitate.

Join University College and the IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning this June for three sets of two-day workshops on leadership, large lecture classes, and uses of assessment data. These programs are open to all faculty, but faculty who teach Gateway level courses may be eligible for $100 stipends.
