Dean of the Faculties Guidelines 2008-2009
The Dean of the Faculties Guidelines for Preparing and Reviewing Promotion and Tenure Dossiers are revised annually, based on feedback received during each year’s promotion and tenure cycle. Issues and concerns raised by faculty on the IUPUI Promotion and Tenure Committee have resulted in the following changes in the 2008-2009 Guidelines.
- Addition of grandfather clause for tenure (Introduction)
- Statement about including reasons for any negative votes at the department level (Chair Responsibilities and Timeline)
- Request not to include CVs of external reviewers (Dossier Format)
- Expanded section on external assessment (Peer Review and External Assessment)
- Rationale for external assessment
- Advice on how to identify potential reviewers
- Explanation of “independent” review
- Revised table of expectations for reviewers at different for different appointment categories and ranks
- Separation of Institutional Procedures from Institutional Values
- Faculty should select just ONE area of excellence (Institutional Procedures: areas of excellence)
- Addition of the following to Institutional Values
- Civic engagement
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Economic development of Indiana
- Principles of Undergraduate Learning
- Translational research
- Undergraduate research
- Addition to standards for excellence (Appendix: Summary of Areas of Excellence)
- Promotion from assistant to associate: emerging national reputation
- Promotion from associate to full: sustained national reputation
- Additional references to creative activities (in Appendix: Documenting Research and Creative Activities in the Dossier)
- Revision of sample letter template to request external review
